PETKO – The PET dryer

We at KOCH-TECHNIK have a great deal to offer processors of PET granulate, particularly where a customised solution is needed. The Koch PETKO systems were developed in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute especially for the PET market. They guarantee outstanding results when drying sensitive materials such as PET PREFORMS, PET films and optical discs.
Many factors play a part in the manufacture of PREFORMS for PET bottles. In order to achieve the desired results, we at KOCH-TECHNIK have developed some impressive specialised solutions: starting with the V 2 A stainless steel used for the drying containers, through the correct installation of the heating element to the heat insulation with suitable, heat-resistant materials. Furthermore, an adapted control system identifies the potential for energy saving, again setting standards in successful and cost-effective production for manufacturers.

Drying containers with crystallisation insert

Frequently, the crystallisation and drying of amorphous PET are not separated, but carried out together. A crystallisation insert has been installed in the drying containers for drying PET. This ensures that the PET granulate is not mixed, but remains mobile in the drying process. In collaboration with the Frauenhofer Institute, we have developed patented solutions which compensate for the shift in the crystallisation zone which occurs as part of the process.
